It was a quiet New Years Eve, but neither of them were complaining. Lester sat on his sofa, large Scotch in hand, arm resting around Connor's shoulders. Connor was curled into him in a gesture Lester found oddly pleasing, nursing his own drink. They had finally agreed on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny as having entertainment to suit them both.

Bagpipes sang in the opening bars of Auld Lang Syne and Connor grabbed the remote and shut off the TV.

Lester tightened his grip as his mind flooded with memories of previous laugher-filled Hogmanay celebrations.

 “It’s okay Conn. I miss him too.”
