Reassurances are hidden in flippant jokes and quick glances. An entire private moment, played out in public for no one but them to see.

The aid comes into his office and orders him to stop working immediately and follow him. Lester puts down his pen and leaves the room. He has a feeling the work will be on someone else’s desk by the time he returns.

A file has been thrust at him and he pursues it as they stalk through the corridors. It makes no sense; rubbish about dinosaurs and holes in time.

By the time his briefing is over he realises that this is not nonsense, but the project that will either make his career or ensure an irrecoverable fall from grace.

In November I arrived late at a gathering of Denialists and they were already in full flow. The first thing that was thrown at me (after vodka) was the idea of Lester as a cat-nun. Lester can feel the tension radiating from Becker. The soldier is like a coiled spring, but attempting to appear outwardly calm.

Almost imperceptibly Lester slows his pace as they walk through the ARC, forcing them to take longer on their route. He knows he’s torturing the other man, but frankly it’s not normal to be this excited.

They finally arrive at the armoury and Becker is no longer restraining himself. He bounces on the balls of his feet as Lester keys in the entry-code.

“Honestly, Captain, it is a weapons delivery. You’re like a kid with a new bloody toy.”

On the back of this, did anyone ever make any gif icons of Becker doing his excited swirly hands at the prospect of making things go boom? Anyone got any linkies?
