He'd even managed to be the odd one out on his course, which should have been full of people like him.

Nick slapped him on the back as they left the incursion site and Stephen draped a casual arm around both their shoulders. Connor smiled the smile of the belonging.

“No. All the trimmings, remember?” Ryan replied, brandishing a length of red tinsel.

“Oh, come on,” Connor whined.

“Connor, if anything ever teaches you not to make a bet against me again, let it be this,” Stephen countered.

“Okay, ready,” Ryan declared.

Abby hit a switch near the floor and multicoloured lights flashed on.

Connor closed his eyes and bore the laughter of his co-workers as the lights wrapped around his body blinked on and off, baubles hung from every button and pocket and tinsel tickled his nose.

“The human Christmas tree!”

Connor is being disgruntled. He is trying really hard not to show it, but isn’t sure he is doing a very good job.

Stephen is taller than him – he may actually be taller than most people alive, he is definitely cooler than him, can ran fast, shoot straight, kick a bloody football perfectly, he’s funny, everyone thinks he’s wonderful and to top it off he is completely gorgeous and bloody sexy.

Just cause for disgruntlement.

Then Stephen looks at him and smiles a different smile to the ones he gives everyone else and suddenly Connor is feeling really quite gruntled.

They deserved to squirm. After today’s absolute fiasco, Lester was determined to choose his words of derision even more carefully than usual.

He knew Lorraine affectionately referred to the gathered Hart, Temple and Ryan as Tall, Dark and Handsome, but Reckless, Trouble-Magnet and Doesn’t-Understand-What-the-Hell-Discreet-Means was more bloody like it.

Ryan lay flat and naked on the bed, wincing.

The At-Least-Not-As-Big-As-They-Usually-Are-asaurus’s tail had caught him hard and thrown him into a mess of brush and razor-sharp twigs. They had ripped through his clothing, digging deeper as he tried to free himself, and tearing at his skin. A multitude of scratches and lacerations now criss-crossed his body.

But Connor’s hands were warm as they gently cleaned each one before placing a soft kiss to every part of torn skin. Stephen followed in his wake, offering his own kisses to the damaged flesh, soothing the way for the sting of antiseptic cream.

Stephen rolled over and propped himself up on one arm. His eyes traced the network of scars that decorated Ryan’s back. He lifted a hand but resisted the impulse to touch as the other man slept.

Shrapnel, bullets, some Ryan never discussed, now accompanied by marks left by the future predator. It was in these quiet hours of the night that Stephen let himself contemplate what could have been, what so nearly was.

“Stephen, stop thinking so loudly.”

Ryan’s soft voice was unexpected, but its existence calmed Stephen and, lying back down, he placed a hand on the scarred skin.

AN: I may have had a little bit of a drinkie last night, which may have made me decide that I had to write drunk Stephen. I may have also decided that

Stephen stood and studied the floor. He was fairly sure it was moving. He was also fairly sure that floors weren’t supposed to do that.

Two arms suddenly slipped around his waist and he felt himself being pulled back against a firm body. Warm lips kissed his neck and then moved up to his ear.

“It’s time we went home,” Ryan said.

“But the boys said they wanted to play a game,” Stephen protested. “We should stay and play with them.”

“They are playing a game. It’s called ‘last man standing’ and trust me sweetie, you are not going to win. We should go home.”

“But I don’t want to,” Stephen replied petulantly.

The lips moved back to his neck and he felt teeth nip against the soft flesh there. It seemed like a pretty convincing argument to him.

“Home it is!”

An unusual sound made Connor sit up and take notice. It was a strange enough thing to hear, but the tone in which it came...

Connor went to investigate.

He crept along the lab corridor, unusually quiet save for the noise he was pursuing. He peered into each lab in turn until he found what he was looking for. His eyes widened as his suspicions were confirmed.

He turned and bolted.

Connor ran as fast as he could and spilled untidily into the control room, causing everyone to turn and stare.

A grin split his face.

"Stephen’s singing show tunes."

Okay, I am sorry about this. When I saw the prompt the first thing that leapt into my head was the song "Light at the End of the Tunnel" from Starlight Express. This has been happened every time I thought about it, so I finally gave in.
