Three words.

It was just three teeny weenie words.

“Move in properly.”

Lester had spoken them, in that amazing casual but abrupt manner that only he could master, over breakfast one morning, without even looking at him. He’d stuttered a bit, but could feel the grin almost breaking his face.

“Yes, yes, of course I will.”

But those three little words had changed everything. They told Connor exactly what he meant to Lester; told him “where they were” (‘cos heaven forbid they ever talked about anything); and they let him move on, stride forward and leave everything else behind him.

I was going for "saying goodbye to his old life". A little obscure I know, but I really wanted to do a happy goodbye!
