It was dark, the streetlamps of Victorian London doing little to cut into the foggy gloom. But I wasn’t worried, I felt safe in the city I had adopted as my home; had prospered in.

The knife pressed against my ribs from the shadows and I was pulled into an ally.

“I have money, take my money,” I gasped out as the knife travelled to my throat.

“I don’t want your money, I just want your name.”

The words growled in my ear were the last I ever heard.
