One of my Guides left the Unit on Friday and she made me a lovely goodbye card. Part of it said that she would miss my silly jokes and my smiling face. I found this thoroughly adorable and really touching. When telling someone about it at work they paused and then commented on how true it was that I really did smile a lot, even when I’m clearly having a bad day.

The thing is, I know this; I know I smile a lot.

Some years ago when my self confidence was even lower than it is now, someone told me that my smile was my best feature. It was a throwaway comment to them, but even though I have never liked my smile – I find it wonky and annoying, but then I find most of me wonky and annoying – I took the comment to heart and decided that if that was my best feature then I should play on it. I defy anyone to say that they don’t want to feel like they look their best sometimes.

And so I started smiling as often as I could. And I quickly found that the more I smiled the more I wanted to smile. And that when I smiled at other people they smiled back. Pretty soon I wasn’t even thinking about when I smiled and when I didn’t, I just found myself doing it a lot. And smiling makes me feel good, and the better I feel the more I smile. It’s a wonderful little circle. And if it gets other people smiling too then so much the better.

So, here’s my thought for the day if you want one. If you know someone who doesn’t smile enough, tell them how pretty they look when they do. You never know what you might start.

Oh, that's lovely!

And it's true as well about smiling at people. I feel unhappy and pissed off a lot of the time, but I do my best to hide it by being bouncy and cheerful. It probably stops me from crawling under the bed and not coming out!

It's really true, sometimes you just have to smile through it.

*hugs again*

As they tell them at Brownies: If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours. :D

That's a lovely attitude :) I do remember you smiling a lot when we met at the Weekender.
It's a good way to go about life - it makes everyone around you a little more cheerful!

Well, reading *that* made me smile, so I'm off to a good start.

A 'friend' of mine informed me I look like a demented frog when I smile...I try to do it anyway *g*
