The 'please think twice before you harsh my squee' post.

Essentially this post boils down to 'if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all'. I get that not everyone is looking forward to new Torchwood, and that's cool, that's your right and opinion. It's not like I'm going to sit you down, pin your eyes open and make you watch. So why do people feel the need to, whenever I get excited about it, point out all their perceived problems with it and reel off a list of reasons why they won't watch it with the implication that I shouldn't either?

When someone tweets about how excited they are that they have bought an album by an insipid no-talent twonk, I do not tell them that they are an insipid no-talent twonk. Or if someone is waxing lyrical about a film that was clearly written by a baboon with the word structure and characterisation abilities of a slightly drunk sloth, I do not tell them my suspicions about the genealogy behind their beloved piece of celluloid. No, I just make no comment at all about it and let them continue with their happy. And I think that is what most of you do most of the time.

So why with Torchwood is it open season on anyone who dares to look forward to it, and SHOCK HORROR actually says out loud that they are?

You're entitled to your opinion and with most of you we have discussed pros and cons at length, and that's been cool, it really has. I like healthy debate. But why do you have to throw it at me when I'm being happy and excited? Can't you just read my tweet or hear me yip and just not fucking reply rather than throwing every negative comment you can think of at it? Don't you think that's just a little bit shitty?

I do, so please stop while I still respect you all as decent people who know how to interact with other humans. I refuse to lose friends over a TV show but not knowing how to respect someone’s feelings – even if they are about a TV show – is a different matter.

**claps loudly** I LOVE THIS! I feel the same way. Which is why I hardly have read or said anything about MD. I'm very excited about it but it's like I'm afraid to say so because every time I read someone's enthusiasm about it, just as many come out of the woodwook and have to rehash all their reasons for NOT wanting to watch it.

That's fine if you don't want to watch, but if you don't want to watch why are you reading new info about the show and raining on everyone's parade who IS excited about it?

I could go on but I'll stop here (and I haven't even had any caffine yet! LOL!).

Well, I'm seriously *not* looking forward to the new series, but I said something pretty much like this ages ago, so I entirely agree! Not cool having a go at people simply because they disagree on soemthing like this. We should all be mature enough to agree to disagree. Come on, people manage to agree to disagree on other things, so we know how to do it!

So, yeah, be happy and enjoy it, and I hope it doesn't disappoint those of you looking forward to it ;-) I'll be sulking in the corner muttering about the many things I personally don't like about what I've seen, but hopefully that won't interfere with your enjoyment of it :-)

Thank you. The deabte about it and people sharing their opinions is great; what's life without differences? I just keep getting really down that whenever I get excited people seem determined to rain on my parade.

Oh, debate is great, and people still being invested in the show is fantastic, and all of that is good. But, yeah, I'm not going to be convinced that MD is the best direction the show could have taken, and equally I don't expect to convince anybody that TW ended on Exit Wounds and there was never a series 3, but rather something that pretended to be TW. And yeah, it gets annoying when the other side can't accept that, and you get annoyed because people who don't like MD try to shoot you down, and I get annoyed because saying anything against MD is seen as "not being a real fan of the show", and it all gets just so bitter and annoying...

Just for the record, my old rant about the same topic (sort of) is here. It was about people's reactions to CoE, but it's pretty much the same thing: whatever you think about it, fine by me, even if I disagree! :)

And, yeah, gleeing over old TW sounds like fun! :D I need to rewatch a lot of it to write my episode codas, so I'm hoping some squeeing to appear on my journal. Soon. Ish. Well, you may by now know my definition of "soon"... It's more a kind of "it'll happen when it happens"

Completely. I totally understand why some people don't want to watch it. It's going to be totally different and not everyone likes that kind of TV. And I don't expect everyone I know to all like the same things as me, life would be terribly dull if we did. I've just got annoyed lately that whenever I got happy and excited it felt like people were lining up to bring me down again and I don't see how that's fair. It just feels a little mean to me.

And oh by the way, thanks for letting me know that there IS going to be more Torchwood! I'm watching it primarily via Netflix streaming media. Watched through the Children of Earth arc because that's as far as it goes right now. Guess I'll have to go catch up to whatever happened after that?

Children of Earth is the last series that has been aired. Torchwood Miracle Day starts July-ish I believe. Being aired on the STARZ channel in the States as it's co-financed by them.

I am feeling... wary, I suppose, about Torchwood 4 but there's no way I'd tell anyone they couldn't enjoy it! I will probably love it but the wariness comes from being almost afraid to invest in liking any of the characters as I'm half convinced RTD will kill off most of the ones I do like and I'm terribly worried about the fate of Rhys. Doesn't stop me looking forward to seeing Captain Jack back on the screen though.

I hope you're not talking about me, cause I think I've been pretty chill, but yeah, I 100% agree with this 'cause it goes both ways. It's your journal, you should be able to say what you want without people telling you why it's wrong, same as I should be able to say, "Fuck y'all, I'm pissed and I'm not gonna watch it" without having 32908490234 people say, "But here's ten reasons why you should get over it!" and "You'll change your tune once you see [whatever]!"

There's nothing worse than when you really like something then someone pops up and goes Here are many reasons why you should not like it. And I'm all like, but.. but.. I like it.

I don't mind my friends having different tastes to me & certainly a lot of my other friends aren't into Primeval, for example, and when it comes to music some of my friends actively dislike some of the stuff I love but we try and keep it civilised. Likewise if I don't like what my friends like I see no point in being bitchy about it to them - I accepted those people into my life as a package deal & part of that is accepting and respecting their likes and dislikes. I think like you say it becomes more of a respect issue than anything else.

Idg why ppl have to be all hatey, it's just so simple - if you don't like something don't click/read/talk/whatever about it. It's just that simple. And I REALLY don't get why ppl aren't allowed to have their own opinions without some nitwit trying to shove the opposite opinion down their throat.
