Now, I have to admit something; I have a bit of a thing for Ben Miller. Now I realise that is going to come as a huge shock to you all, but there we have it.  He is brilliantly clever, terribly handsome, thoroughly charming, funny and just generally annoyingly talented.

Anyway, I’ve had a bit of an overdose in the last couple of days. Here is a round up.

On Sunday the ever fabulous and not seen in far far too long [info]shamazipan descended on London and the two of us, along with Flatty, [livejournal.com profile] blu04 and [livejournal.com profile] morrigans_eve(also happily gracing us in London for a day) headed to BBC television centre to see the filming of a new Armstrong and Miller pilot.

It is a sitcom currently titled Felix and Murdo, but they are thinking of changing the title to Happy and Glorious possibly. It is set in 1908 when the Olympic Games last came to London and focuses on Felix (Miller) and Murdo (Armstrong) as they try to compete in the Olympics despite no skill or training what so ever, and trying to avoid marriage while still getting their leg over. And, as the blurb says, at a time when “all the good drugs were still legal”. It was very funny and there was a crackin’ supporting cast including Katy Wix. (All of this is stuff in the public domain already, not giving owt away I shouldn’t.)

It was similar to their sketch show in that the humour was a fab mix of filthy, juvenile sex jokes, clever, well thought-out lines and some great visual gags. And the pair of them so clearly want to be slashed together, it is unreal.

I haven’t been to a sitcom filming before so I really enjoyed it from that point of view, as well as the show itself. And  - time for the shallow – Mr Miller was waistcoated which made me terribly happy indeed. And he wore a tux. Somehow I was still able to walk by the end.

And then yesterday (Monday) Flatty and I went up to Leicester Square for the preview screening of Huge which Ben directed and co-wrote. It is a film about Warren (Johnny Harris) and Clarke (Noel Clarke) who are trying to make it as stand up comedians. There was humour in it, but a lot of it made for quite uncomfortable viewing, but in the best possible way. They ended up in theses horribly awkward situations and you could really feel it. Evoking that I think is pretty hard and is a testament to the direction and the acting.

Noel Clarke was great. It was interesting to see him give a performance so different to how you normally see him and I think he did it really well. But Johnny Harris stole it for me; he was just superb. It was a really understated performance and everything was in his body language and his face. I found him quite mesmerising and his pain in parts was palpable.

Before the film started they had some competition winners doing five minute stand up sets. It was hit and miss, but there were some good ones. Ben came on and did thanks and introductions of some of the cast. The cast by the way, is a who’s who of British actors and comedians, including bonus Russell Tovey who, in my opinion, is one of the best young actors we have.

Flatty is an enabling sweetheart and we hung around in the foyer for a bit while Ben talked to lots of people, but he was proving too popular for me to try myself, so we headed home and he remained happily unmolested by me.

So an eventful couple of days and ones that remind me why I do like living in London so much. The fact that I can get to this stuff so easily is really wonderful. The two events also heightened my wish to be taken to museums and have Ben Miller be clever at me about stuff.

But I still think it’s unfair for one person to have so much talent and be so damned distractingly handsome with it.

My description of Felix and Murdo to [livejournal.com profile] whuffle - someone snuck into Jooles's brain, and wrote a broadcast-able sitcom based on her hot-button list ...

He was very, very scrummy in tails. and in a waistcoat. And sitting in that chair, someone should have been on their knees in front of him!

And that someone should have been Jooles! It's only fair!

Hee, thank you, so glad you like.

I'm working on a music one at the mo, but a bit more considered - well in theory anyway. I expect comments from you on that one!

Are their any waistcoated pics in the public domain, or do we have to use our imaginations?

There were no cameras allowed inside so prob have to wait until/if it gets an air slot and promo pics. This is sad. Howe4ver, I do have plans for a BM WW!

you've sold me the show... much as I like Miller and Armstrong (I adore their 1940's flight aces) but I adore Katy Wix - met her at a Hub and she was just awesome and gorgeous and gracious... on that note, off to find an icon :D

I haven't met her but I've only heard good things about her. She had a lot of banter with the warm up guy and could totally hold her own. And she was funny.

she was waiting for her taxi after her day at the con... she didn't have to be so nice to us... (no luck with the icon sadly)

It's always so nice to hear when people are like that. Makes me much more likely to try to support them in future projects. In one of my previous stalking attempts I met Ben Miller and he was so friendly and charming that it made the whole damn thing ten times worse!!

I squee whenever I see her (yes, even in the Horrible Histories 1941 'we're the WWII girls' and I'm German) in Not Going Out - she's just so dry and aweseom in that :D

*bounces happily in shared adoration glee and seconds all you said*

When more screencaps from last night come out I will be pouncing on them. Was it me or was he just looking so scrummy? More so than Lester normally does.
