Rating/Warning: PG

He catches them out of the corner of his eye, sometimes in the face of a stranger. The ghosts of his past hovering in his brain, tricking his sight.  Or maybe he really does see them. He knows there are stranger things in this world.

Sometimes he turns, tries to see them properly, as if he could grab hold and look on them one last time.

It never works. He can never see them again, never be with them again. So he makes do with what he gets.

Just a glimpse, a taste, a sliver of lovers long since gone.

Oh, this was quite beautiful. Just the thought of your past being in the corner of your eye... what lovely imagery.

Poor Jack. Echoes of the past all around him and all he can get are fleeting glimpses that ignite memories of the people he's loved and lost.

This is such a good description of that phenomenon of thinking you recognize someone from your past in a stranger -- and of course Jack would be prone to that way more than most of us. Really neat!
