She’s the one that haunts him.
They say there’s always one. One life lost that sticks in the mind. The one you can never shake off.
You try hard to save every life while accepting that some are meant to die.
But when that little ragged girl went limp on the table he knew he’d never save enough. Her broken body, shrivelled from neglect, refused to respond to the drugs, hands or machines that desperately tried to restart her heart.
It was her ghost that turned Owen around and made him say “yes” to the American in the big coat.
