Sometimes the fingers in my mind close around something and I think for a little while that it might be okay after all. Then it slips from my all too tentative grasp and I am the one plummeting again. Falling unchecked and unstopped into a seemingly bottomless abyss. The problem is I know that there is a bottom. And I know what will happen when I hit it. And that is the most terrifying thought of all.
