So, in two weeks my secondment is over and I go back to my considerably duller job. I figure I will need something fun to help me occupy my time and this is my idea. It is based on something silly I do from time to time anyway, but I thought it might be fun to make it a proper game.

So here is the game:

I will try to get a line from Torchwood into everyday conversation each day. No-one outside my game can know what I am doing and I score different points for different types of phrases I manage to get in depending on their difficulty. Now I am happy to play with myself (stop sniggering at the back there), but I thought it would be more fun to play with other people (seriously now, stop it. Yes, you.)

I was thinking that you, my dear LJ friends could either join in by offering me phrases (from the shows, audio books or novels) that I try to work in, or you could play the game with me. If anyone does, then I’ll select suggested phrases at random, post new ones each week and keep a score board. Hell, if more than one person decided they want to do this I may get giddy with excitement and try to start my own little comm. (I think we all know how badly that will end, but I’m willing to give it a go.)

Here are a couple of rules I have so far.

·         There are two types of phrases that can be used.

o   The everyday phrase – these will be ones that are conceivable to use every day like “it says so on the bottom of my screen” or “I really like that coat”. Seven everyday phrases will be chosen at the start of the week and you can use as many as you can, but each one can only score points once. Each everyday phrase is worth 5 points, so the maximum is 35 points if you manage to use them all in a week.

o   Golden phrases – These are phrases that most people will find hard to get into their everyday conversation, for example, my personal favourite that I am determined to use one day, “It looks like a weevil to me.” There will be an ongoing list of golden phrases and they have no expiration date. Golden phrases can be used at any time and as many times as you like over the course of the game. A golden phrase is worth 15 points.

·         The phrase must be used as part of a conversation with another person without them knowing what you are doing. You cannot just shout out “Captain Harness appreciates a well polished knob” in the middle of a crowded room. (although, that does sound like fun, so if you want to do it, by all means do so, but you won’t get points.)

So, anyone who has managed to read this far now has three choices. Would you:

1.       like to play the game with me? And/or

2.       like to offer me everyday and golden phrases to try to use?

3.       like to run away screaming and never read another post of mine again?

But just imagine trying to pass off Torchwood lines to postmen and people in supermarkets. How much fun! Yey for joining in.

Somehow I think you were talking about me with the gigling and playing with um.... yeah I know you meant me.

Currently I don't actually speak with anyone, being home nearly 24/7 but I can try... or I can be your supplier.

Ha! I totally was! Too funny.

Supplying is good, but also think of the fun of slipping in Torchwood lines to people at the bank and supermarket and stuff. Besides, it won't be for long.

it could be fun to watch the shop's customers reaction, It could also be fun find out how long it would take for my boss to get suspicious.

But I'll have to turn the sentence in French first, or I'll end at the psychiatric hospital within a week.

LOL i'll give it a go :) Although the people I speak to on a regular basis are used to having random bits of Torchwood dropped into the conversation, and will likely recognise them. Does that count against me, if they're not actually *playing*? :S

I have a little post on my LJ with phrases from fic that have tickled me - I'll have to start doing the same with the canon now!

I will most definitely join in with this game even though (like someone else said) my friends will most likely recognise phrases, especially if I slip into a welsh accent to do them (as often happens to me... don't ask...).

I WILL get 'looks like a weevil to me' into conversation one day!

(might have to be careful with this when I start uni though... LOL)

"That would be me. I'm a twat."
