So, yes, the self pity is still here. I’m still off sick and I still can’t do owt.

Basically, every time I try to move, I go dizzy, woozy, light headed and get the most exciting room spins. The near constant feeling of thinking I’m either going to pass out or fall over and being nauseous is frankly getting a little old. Also, after even the smallest amount of exertion, I am getting shattered. The whole thing is immensely frustrating.

So far we know it’s not an ear infection or labyrinthitis. Doc’s main guesses are:

  1. anaemia
  2. my immune system is fucked, I have a random virus that is doing this and my body can’t fight it
  3. my immune system is pretty rock awesome and I have a less random virus and my body is successfully fighting all the other parts of the virus – hence having no sniffles, swollen glands etc – but not quite able to get this last bit.

But I went for ritual blood letting yesterday and should get the results in a week and have a better idea then. As much as I love the NHS…A week?!?

Anyone who knows me knows I am rubbish at being ill and one day is about my tolerance limit. I am going completely stir crazy as I can’t get out of the flat. My flatty is being wonderful though and looking after me and mocking me in equal measure. But I am really frustrated and I just hate not being able to do what I normally do so much. I like being busy; I am good at being busy and this is just maddening. It got so bad I burst into tears on the phone to my mum last night.

Oh, and I’m running out of food cos I can’t get to supermarket. Looks like I’m going to have to fork out on a delivery. On the plus side work are being pretty good and I am doing some work from home so I feel like a vaguely useful member of society again.

I also hate whinging, so apologies for this, but wanted to vent and get it out of my system. I annoy myself because people live with worse every day and I’m bitching about being sick for a week.

Arse then.

Fingers crossed it is 'simple' anaemia as that's the most easily treatable thing.

For outpatient blood tests it takes about 2 days for the test result to come through and then it has to go through to whoever is giving you the result.

I'm lucky as whenever I've needed blood tests I can just get someone in work to do them and as I have a hospital case sheet number (from in-work casualty attendances) they're done same day usually. I then take the results to my GP myself and it is a hell of a lot quicker than doing it the official way. I have had my wrist slapped once (only once, which not bad going for a nurse as we're terrible patients) by the GP for doing my own interpreting of the results though.

(ex ambulance service - also awful patient and in line with most NHS workers is takes dying to convince us to go to GP!)

Thanks for this. Yeah, I'm going aneamia to as it's something then that can just be dealt with. If it's a vius I pretty much just have to wait it out. And, as discussed, I am impatient!

Arse and bugger! Hope those tests come back soon and they can sort out what's causing it.

I've got ME and they took armfuls of sodding blood trying to work out what it wasn't ...

Thanks hon. I'm just impatient and irritable at the moment and wanted a whinge!

I think I've heard about that with ME; tests currently are more about ruling everything else out than diagnosing that. Must have been very unpleasent.

Erk! Being ill is no fun, but not knowing what it is, is horrible. A week for blood results is ridiculous.
*huggles you gently* Take care, sweetie.

Thank you mate, I'll look into this. The doc seems to think my ears are clear, but if the second set of bloods can't clear it up I'm going for a second opinion.

A week for the results? Wow, that's a record ...

I hope you feel better soon and that there's nothing bad in your system! *hugs*

Luckilly they came back sooner, and I have a dipped B12 level, so had some more and waiting on those now! Thanks so much for the hugs.

Hope it's something simple, and that you start getting better soon.

I've still got my cold (started with an achy throat on 24th Feb) and have moments of dizziness but otherwise I am getting better. This has got to have been the worst cold I've ever had, actually had to take my first ever sick day (I started work in Jan '97 so that shows you how often I suffer with illness)

Eugh, you poor thing. Personally (and I'm biased!) I think it's worse when you're normally fit as that is what is driving me out of my mind! I walk at least a couple of miles a day. Right now I can barely make it from bedroom to lounge and it sucks!

Hope you are all fit by next weekend.

A viral ear infection is probably the worst thing I have had to endure in my life so I have every sympathy. *hug*
I'm sure the blood will come back quicker and if there's anything urgent they'll contact you :) They're just trying to stop people ringing up every five minutes? *headdesk*
Hope you feel loads better soon.

*sends virtual groceries*

I'd send the real kind, but
a) Customs would get suspicious,
b) They would take so long that you'll probably be all recovered by the time they arrive, and
c) It'd almost certainly be rotten by the time it got there, which probably wouldn't come across as thoughtful as I would hope. :)

Thanks for the thought though. You do well enough keeping amused at Denial everyday!
