Well, it seems as though it’s going to be one of those weeks that my past life comes back to haunt me.

A girl just had a fit in the office; never been known to have one before, just went down. Apparently all that training doesn’t leave you and it just kicked in without me even thinking about it. I haven’t worked for the service for two years now and I’m surprised by how automatic my response was. Everything that I was supposed to do was just there in my head and I took control of the whole situation within a second. And it’s weird, when you act and talk with authority people just listen and respond. I’ve experienced it a hundred times before, but not in this environment so it was a bit different. Although I have just had to apologise for barking orders at people…

It’s also weird because I don’t expect to have to do that sort of thing anymore so it all seems a bit surreal and I’m now downing coffee likes it’s going out of fashion. My non-smoking during the day thing has just flown out of the window too…

I suppose some thinks are just like riding a bike: once you've learned it you'll never forget how to do it when needs be. And that's good for the girl :-) My friend has epilepsy, so I somehow know what you went through and I know that the poor girl must have been absolutely frightened of it if it was her first seizure ... Anyhow, here's a virtual hug for you *HUG*

Thanks for the hug. They've sent her home from the hospital saying there is nothing wrong with her. Can't believe it.

Hu? They did what? Let's hope for her that they are right, then ...

oh, and please exchange the "k" for a "g" in my first reply ... "things and thinks" *headdesk*

Wow. It's so fortunate that you were there to take charge. Whatever it takes to deal with the aftermath, go for it. Tomorrow's another day.

Oh wow, that's really good to know. I've wondered about that...seeing as how I've been out of nursing for over 5 years now. That's good to know.

Yeah, I've wondered if anything would come back and it did. I was a bit shakey afterwards, but that was processing the surprise of it I think. When it actually happened it was total auto pilot. Hopew you don't have to find out yourself anytime soon.

It is amazing what we retain isn't it? Did you work as a medic? Was your girl having a seizure? I work as a medic here in the states and it is always seems I run into situations where my skills are needed at the most unusual times!

I used to be an emergency call handler for the ambulance service; left two years ago. To take the calls you have to be trained in a lot of first and emergency aid. She was def having some sort of seizure and she was unconcious afterwards for a few minutes. She's been sent home from the hospital now for having nothing wrong with her. I'm not happy.

I always wonder if I'd be able to do the things I've been trained to do in an emergency. Never having had the chance (fortunately) to do it for real, I just hope I wouldn't freeze.

You done good today!

Hey, thanks mate. If you've had training you prob would just go into it without thinking, then freeze afterwards! I did the first time.

Weird, someone here at work had a seizure yesterday as well. Aliens? Rift activity?
