As this week's challange was past prompts and I am a late comer to the comm, I put all the pormpts I hadn't done into a list, re-ordered them, gave them a number and am inviting people to choose a number and they get a drabble. here are my first eight...

Title: Unexpectedly Human
Characters: Connor, Becker

reggietate prompt 'Flesh and Blood'
Connor holds Becker in his arms, pulls him tight against his chest. Dragging him backwards, he lowers them both to the ground, leaning against a tree for support.
They are out of the immediate line of danger now, and the other soldiers and Abby are keeping the pack at bay.
Connor pushes his hand against Becker’s chest, applying pressure where it’s needed, and he can’t help but stare as his pale skin is quickly turned red.
It somehow seems unexpected to him; an unforeseen revelation to discover that Becker is human; flesh and blood, the same as each of them.

“We all have to make sacrifices James; we all have to give up a little for the good of the whole. I know it’s difficult for you but we have to think what’s best for the project now.”
Lester clamps his lips together, his heart hammering so hard he fears it will burst out of his ribcage. Giving up the search for Connor, Abby and Danny isn’t a sacrifice it’s…it’s the end of his world.
Matt catches his eye and gives him the briefest of nods. Lester feels his lungs inflate again as he realises that, somehow, Matt knows.

Connor has finally got an invite to one of Lester’s ‘receptions’. He’s tried to excel himself, and stands now in front of the mirror barely recognising his reflection.
Although he has cheated with the tie, the hired tux fits him better than he ever expected. It makes him look broader somehow, fills out his shoulders, give him a boxier look.
He half smiles into the mirror and poses, marvelling when the new, different Connor copies him in the glass.
He is startled by the amused voice of Lester from the doorway.
“When you’re quite finished playing Bond, can we leave?”
Title: Never Give Up

Sarah didn’t give in easily. She’d fought her family for the chance to go to University. She’d held two part-time jobs at any time to pay her way through her degrees and PhD.
She’d not given up when man after man got the best jobs after graduating. She’d not given up waiting for Marion to die so she could get a promotion (though she did feel bad when that actually happened).
And she would not give up now.
She didn’t care how intentionally filthy the conversation got, the soldier boys would not make her flee the canteen in embarrassment again!

Connor sat in the req room surrounded by his co-workers, his never ending internal monologue working overtime.
He had been surprised with a cake, a god awful rendition of happy birthday in various keys, and a pile of assorted presents sat on the table in front of him.
Birthdays had never been a big thing at home, and at uni he and the boys just developed a ‘birthday boy’s video choice’ system; no real difference to every third Tuesday really.
He looked about him again and restarted his internal monologue.
Connor sat in the req room surrounded by his friends…

Lester had discovered long before now that allies came in all shapes and sizes and from the strangest corners of this political world.
But this barely-there girl was the strangest so far.
When they had first met there was suspicion on both sides, then circumstances had forced a tentative bond of trust. Even he admitted that affection came soon after.
But now, since she’d been back, and since everything had changed, so had they.
Of all the people he knew he could trust, Abby topped that list. She suspected the same people he did and took orders from no one.

“I do appreciate a party with free wine.” Sarah waved her glass to emphasise her point.
“I appreciate finally having another woman to talk to at these things.” Jenny confided, “Can get a bit boys club on occasion.”
“I know. Boys eh?” Sarah wrinkled her nose.
“Yeah, silly boys with big guns.”
“Compensating.”
“Compensating.” The two women leant close as they giggled.
Jenny caught Sarah’s eye.
“I’m sure you have nothing to compensate for.”
“I could say the same for you.”
Jenny smiled. “Why don’t we take this party somewhere were there are no boys to ruin it for us?”

Becker itched to pace but stayed seated. He knew they were doing this on purpose. The room was small, it reminded him of interrogation rooms from a time he’d rather forget. If he concentrated the smells and sounds of those places came back to him. He could smell the piss and the shit and the blood and hear the screams. Some of the screams were his.
This place was clean and quiet, but that was disturbing in itself. They’d made him wear civvies, pushing him further out of his comfort zone.
The door opened and the interrogation began.
“Your name?”
