Ramblings of a madwoman

“Gwen, it’s wrong. You know it’s wrong.”

“I don’t care Ianto, give it to me.”

“Gwen, please think about this. You’ll regret it, I know you will. Please don’t make me do this.”

“Hand it over Ianto; I am not kidding around. I will shoot you if I have to.”

The look of fierce determination on Gwen’s face was enough to know that she was serious. He took a deep steadying breath.

“Just remember I tried to stop you.”

He handed over the bar of chocolate, her sixth today, and resigned himself to having the exact same argument next month.

“You’re fucking kidding me."

“Do I look like I’m laughing? Catch it quickly!” Jack barked at Owen, who dashed to comply, despite his surprise.

“As if things weren’t bad enough we have to worry about toys being aliens?” Owen shouted, running after the escapee and throwing himself after the Slinky as it started making its way down the stairs.

Wrapping his hands around it he swore as he bumped face-first down the last couple of steps, coming to rest at Ianto’s feet.

The Welshman looked down at him.

“You didn’t think about trying to chase it UP some stairs then?”

The room swam in a sickenly quick slow-motion haze.

His head weaved on a boneless neck, shoulders slumped, and his legs lay in a splayed tangle.

The bottle had slipped from his fingers but it didn’t matter because it was empty.

Which was fine because so was he.

Nearly.

There was something still left to feel. A little part of his brain and his gut could still sense the wrongness in the world.

He used the sofa to pull himself up and walked to the kitchen by muscle memory alone. He had prepared for this.
